Pet Identification is highly recommended in this day and age. Everyone needs the proper documents on there pets, as this also cuts down on the number of strays roaming the streets.

The pet ID could be done by personalized tags, rabies tags, municipal tags, and other ways as well. Your tags would usually include your phone number and name on them. This would enable someone to contact you in the unfortunate situation of your dog getting lost.

Dog ID tags are available as plastic or metal and can be purchased in many different colors. Most people like to have reflective dog tags with collars. This will allow your dog to be identified in the dark.

Now there are many different electronic gadgets available to identify and track your dogs. Microchips and Pet GPS are among the favorites. The chips have to be implanted behind the dog's ears so I recommend the GPS. A dog with a collar is a sign that they are not stray and gives the pet more security.

Tattooing is not a form of identification widely used any more. Therefore the best way to go about tracing your missing animals is Pet ID tags or Pet GPS.
